The following face is created in Photoshop only using shape tools and blending options. No other tools are used. Follow the values specified in each blending options sample screen shot. Also follow the layer screen shot image to place the layers accordingly. After understanding its behaviors you can play with values to change its look and feel. There is nothing to explain. But I mentioned wherever I felt it is necessary.
On completion of design the layer palette should look like this:
Follow these steps:
(1) Open Photoshop and create a new document with width 300 and height 300 pixels.
(2) With foreground color set to white in the tools color box, draw a circle at the center of the document with ?
"Ellipse Shape Tool". Leave sufficient room around the circle.
When you draw shapes on canvas, Shape layer automatically created above background layer. Name the layer "face_base"(please check the layer sample image above).
Blending options:
To keep this tutorial as small as possible, I mentioned values applicable for each blending options. The main blending options screen shot is shown here only for first "face_base" layer. To get this blending options Layer style dialogue window, double click extreme left corner of the layer and to set the values click respective tabs in the blending option dialogue box.
The above initial Layer Style dialogue box indicates styles applied to the particular layer. You will not see the tabs below blending options with check mark. To set the value click on the tab and set the following values:
Values for Drop shadow:
(Click on Dropshodow tab and set the following values. Leave other options as is if not mentioned,)
Under Structure:
Blend Mode: Multiply
Click inside color box and set the color to #7a1c02
Opacity=100%
Angle= -90 degree and uncheck Global light.
Distance=5
Spread=0
Size=7
Under Quality
Click inside contour and select cone-inverted option.
Uncheck anti aliased
Leave other options as is.
Values for Inner shadow:
(Click on Inner shadow tab and set the following values. Leave other options as is if not mentioned,)
Under Structure:
Blend Mode: Multiply
Click inside color box and set the color to #a84611
Opacity=100%
Angle= -90 degree and uncheck Global light.
Distance=12
Spread=0
Size=7
Under Quality
Click inside contour and select "Ring" option.
Uncheck anti aliased
Leave other options as is.
Values for Bevel and Emboss:
(Click on Bevel and Emboss tab and set the following values. Leave other options as is if not mentioned,)
Under Structure:
Style: Inner Bevel
Technique: Smooth
Depth: 51%
Direction: Check UP radio button.
Size: 68px
Soften: 0
Angle: 120 (Uncheck Use Global Light check box).
Attitude: 30 degrees.
Gloss Contour: Linear and uncheck Anti aliased.
Highlight Mode: Screen and color set to white.
Opacity: 75%
Shadow Mode: Multiply and set color to #db5d01
Opacity: 75%
Values for Satin:
(Click on Satin tab and set the following values. Leave other options as is if not mentioned,)
Under Structure:
Blend Mode: Multifly and set the color to black
Opacity: 100%
Angle: 0 degree
Distance: 56px
Size: 0px
Contour: Click inside contour box and select Gaussian. Uncheck Anti-aliased and check invert.
Values for Color Overlay:
(Click on Color Overlay tab and set the following values. Leave other options as is if not mentioned,)
Blend Mode: Normal and set the color to #ffb745
Opacity: 100%
After completion of above setting click OK to disperse Layer options dialogue box. Face_base layer image should look like this:
Adding Eyes to the Face Base: Refer the complete face image at the top and add an oval shaped eye above the face_base shape.
A new layer will be created above face_base layer. Name this layer ?left_eye?
Double click extreme left corner of the layer and to set the values click respective tabs in the blending option dialogue box.
Values for Inner shadow:
(Click on Inner shadow tab and set the following values. Leave other options as is if not mentioned,)
Under Structure:
Blend Mode: Multiply
Click inside color box and set the color to black
Opacity=100%
Angle= 120 degree and uncheck Global light.
Distance=5
Spread=0
Size=6
Under Quality
Contour: Click inside contour and set it to linear. Uncheck anti-aliased.
Noise: 0%
Values for Bevel and Emboss:
(Click on Bevel and Emboss tab and set the following values. Leave other options as is if not mentioned,)
Under Structure:
Style: Pillow Emboss
Technique: Smooth
Depth: 341%
Direction: Check Down radio button.
Size: 98px
Soften: 0
Angle: 153 (Uncheck Use Global Light check box).
Attitude: 69 degrees.
Gloss Contour: Linear and uncheck Anti aliased.
Highlight Mode: Screen and color set to white.
Opacity: 100%
Shadow Mode: Multiply and set color to white
Opacity: 97%
Values for Satin:
(Click on Satin tab and set the following values. Leave other options as is if not mentioned,)
Under Structure:
Blend Mode: Multifly and set the color to #4d0000
Opacity: 100%
Angle: -110 degree
Distance: 7px
Size: 4px
Contour: Click inside contour box and select cone. Uncheck Anti-aliased and check invert.
Values for Stroke:
(Click on Stroke Tab and set the following values. Leave other options as is if not mentioned,)
Under Structure:
Size:3
Position: Outside
Opacity:100%
Fill Type: Color and click inside bottom color box and set the color to white.
After completion of above setting click OK to disperse Layer options dialogue box. Both the combined layer image should look like this:
Duplicating Eye:
For Right Eye, duplicate the left eye image and name the layer right eye. To align the vision of eyeball flip the right eye horizontally. To do this click Ctrl+T to get the transform handle around the right eye image and right click inside the transform handle and choose ?Flip Horizontally?. When done Click Enter Key to disperse transform handle. To align the Eye ball of the right Eye, double click extreme right corner of the right eye layer to open Layer style dialogue box.
Click on Bevel and Emboss tab and just change only one value:
Under Shading change the angle 153 degree to 14 degree. The Image should look like this:
Adding Mouth to the face:
Draw a rectangular at the center (below eyes) with rectangle shape tool. Delete one rectangle point to make it triangle with delete anchor point pent tool. (Click and hold on pen tool options to see the delete anchor point tool). Adjust the triangle to look like Smiling Mouth. Please check the top image. Name this new layer as mouth. Add following Layer blending options to Mouth layer. Values for Inner shadow:

Under Structure:
Blend Mode: Multiply
Click inside color box and set the color to black
Opacity=100%
Angle= 103 degree and uncheck Global light.
Distance=5
Spread=0
Size=10
Under Quality
Contour: Click inside contour and set it to linear. Uncheck anti-aliased.
Noise: 0%
Values for Bevel and Emboss:

Under Structure:
Style: Inner Bevel
Technique: Smooth
Depth:241%
Direction: Check Up radio button.
Size: 2px
Soften: 0
Angle: 113 (Uncheck Use Global Light check box).
Attitude: 21 degrees.
Gloss Contour: Linear and uncheck Anti aliased.
Highlight Mode: Screen and color set to white. Opacity: 100%
Shadow Mode: Multiply and set color to Black
Opacity: 75%
Values for Gradient Overlay:
(Click on Gradient Overlay tab and set the following values. Leave other options as is if not mentioned,)
Under Gradient:
Blend Mode: Normal
Opacity: 100%
Gradient: Click inside the gradient box and set the colors as shown below:

Set First Red Color (#ff0000) Location at: 43%, Set next white Color Stop Location At: 45% and last white color stop location at 50%
Uncheck Reverse checkbox.
Style: Set to linear and uncheck Align with layer.
Angle: 21 Degree
Scale: 126%
When done click okay button to disperse Layer Style dialogue box.
The Final Image should look like this:
Right click on the image and select "Save Target As...".
