Sony has once again enhanced its F-series collection by adding the VPC-F113FXH model. This middle average performance quality model is one laptop to consider when you want to own a portable PC. It costs only $1249 but with some upgrades will cost you extra dollars more, but in return you get a more powerful unit. This review of its specifications and special features will give you options when selecting a notebook.

The F-series is quite heavy weighing 6.9 pounds and the 16.4 inch screen makes it quite not a comfortable part of your backpack. However, the stylish and classy design is an eye catcher and presentable. The lusterless finish comes in two options: black or gray with the silver linings on the lid making it unique and formal. The 16.4 inch display screen is housed in a silver framing that displays a resolution of 1,600X900 that produces gallant color with perfect excellent images.

The keyboard is roomy and LED backlit.

The keyboard floor is silver with LED backlit Chiclet-style full size keys that are very sensitive and comfortable during use. A numeric pad is also seen on the right side of the board with big labels. The touch pad is also silver which is also receptive and even with two mouse buttons embedded. Atop the keyboard is a set of useful keys for your added gaming and media pleasure.

Surrounding the chassis of the F-series unit are essential and carefully selected ports and drives which are clearly labeled for your convenience. The MagicGate Memory Stick Pro reader, a detached SD card reader, HDMI/VGA out ports, i.Link port, eSATA/USB combo drive and 2 USB ports adorn the sides of the chassis. And more, there is the S/PDIF and headphone jack and an 802.11b/g/n wireless connectivity switch.

Powered by a 1.6GHz i7-720QM CPU and 6GB of DDR3 RAM, the 500GB 5400rpm hard drive is not really a big deal. The processor can pretty much cope up with the speed and performance you are looking for in a notebook. And besides, you can upgrade the drive to a 7200rpm or 256GB SSD for an extra charge.

A 64 bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium operating system makes the F-series graphically capable of running low end videos and games. Paired with Nvidia’s GeForce 310M graphics chip, it can only accommodate simple games and not so colorful videos.

There are also pre-installed applications in the F-series. ArcSoft’s Visual Effects and Webcam Companion software with the Norton antivirus and Microsoft Office free trial versions packs into the system.
