The xHTML is an upgraded version of the HTML. With the HTML the features did not work uniformly in all browsers and this resulted to the developers undertaking all kinds of measures to overcome this. The initial step is to substitute DOCTYPE HTML 4.01 with its equivalent xHTML 1.0.

Note that the 4.01 version does not care about the composition of the small and big alphabetical letters. While on the other hand, the xHTML works solely with the lower case letters.
