Review
The good facets of this laptop are that it has an exclusively unique design with hard drives that are accessible from the front. However, the poor facets of this laptop are: the poor gaming performance which is poorer than basic gaming PCs, its unworthy price in terms of features and its limited peripheral connectivity options.
Design, Features and Performance
The Acer Aspire G5900-U3092 has a refined and stylish design but its price of $1,349 makes it unworthy of a purchase. The design of this new Acer device is something between a mid-tower and Acer’s 2008 model. In order to get inside the case of it you will need to remove the faceplate first and then the side panel. The Acer Aspire G5900 contains the optical drives sliding out and hard drive bays accessible from the front.
The Acer Aspire G500 has the Intel H57 based motherboard and this does not support another graphics card. It has a large hard drive and the extra RAM but this does not help increase its performance. We cannot say that the Acer Aspire G5900 is slow but it just not as fast as the systems available in its price range. When evaluated with the Velocity Micro system, the results produced that the overclocked Core i5 quad core chip of the Velocity Micro offers improved functioning than the Acer Aspire G5900.
The Acer Aspire G5900 is said to be a capable gaming desktop but when it was compared with the Velocity Micro’s performance through gaming tests, the results showed that the Acer Aspire was capable of playing the high resolution game Far Cry 2 at 75 frames per second and thus it is anticipated that the Acer Aspire will play all games available in the market at a fast frame rate and a good image quality.
The limitation to the second graphics card slot restricts you from the options of upgrading, enhancing and expanding whereas this is not the case with the Velocity Micro system as it is capable of another 3D card a lot. The feature capabilities present in the Acer Aspire G5900 include a 1x PCI Express card slot, a standard PCI card slot, extra wireless networking, a tuner for TV alongwith other features. The upgrading capability of the system is average but it surely does allow you to have extra hard drives.
In the front panel of the system you will find a line of USB 2.0 jacks, headphone jacks, microphone jack, and a media card reader. On the back of the system are the USB 2.0 peripherals, PS/2 mouse and keyboard, a 5.1 analog audio output, and HDMI, two DVI video outs and a Display port. The Acer Aspire G5900 is quite equipped but in comparison with the Velocity Micro, it is far unequipped. When talking about the power consumption and efficiency of the Acer Aspire G5900, it is good enough but someone looking for a better proficiency in gaming and otherwise will rather opt for the Velocity Micro.
