Apple iPhone 4G

Yes, another Apple iPhone. This Apple iPhone 4G was barely out before discussions of the Apple iPhone 5 began. However, this phone was still innovative in terms of the iPhone franchise as a whole. This generation was the first to lose the curved back that had become a trademark of the iPhone and replaced it with a back that was completely flat. The Apple iPhone 4G marked the first design change of the iPhone since 2007.

The phone is 115.2mm tall, 58.6mm wide, 9.3mm thick and weighs approximately 137 grams. The phone comes in both black and white; however most prefer it in black and it is rare to see one in white. The background is simple with “iPhone” written on the back along with Apple’s signature apple icon in silver towards the top. The front of the phone is also simple with only a home button on it. The simplicity of the design increases the attractiveness of the phone.

Something that spiked the interest of many technology gurus’ and cell phone owners was that the phone is actually made of treated glass. The glass covers both the front and the back of the phone. Many were concerned because dropping your cellular phone once or twice is common. However, after many “drop-tests” reviewers have not been able to break it. Also the treated glass is highly scratch-resistant for those who cannot stand the slightest scratch to their phone. The glass also has an oleophobic coating which makes the phone more fingerprint- and smudge-resistant.

The display screen is 3.5” Retina display with a resolution of 960 x 640 pixels. It is run on a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 Processor as well as the Apple A4 chip set. The iPhone of course uses Apple’s latest operating system, iOS 4.

The Apple iPhone 4 has an amazing 5MP camera. It has the ability to take images that have a resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. The camera has a mode called “geo-tagging”. Geo-tagging is when the camera and the GPS on your phone work together to find the location of where you are taking the photo. It basically connects your phone with a certain location through use of the GPS. Geo-tagging helps organize your photos on your phone and on social media platforms. The camera on the iPhone also has the ability to auto-focus and it has an LED flash.

The video quality of the iPhone is standard; however it has a video light which is lacking in a lot of smartphones. There is also a camera on the front of the phone. The front-facing VGA camera can be used for video chat or as a camera on its own. This iPhone is only capable of video chat when using Wi-Fi.

Like all of the Apple’s iPod/iPhone products the battery is built in to the device. The battery is a 1420mAH rechargeable lithium-ion battery that has the ability to be charged by either using a computer or a wall power adapter. The average life of an iPhone in terms of talk time is generally 7 hours.
