Before Apple introduced its first iPad, HP had already developed a new form of technology which allows you to use your PC either as a tablet/laptop. Introducing the HP EliteBook 2740p, a 12.1-inch screen PC, weighs 3.8 pounds and measures only 1.25 inches thick when the lid is closed. It begins with a luxurious price of $1699 but the features are far more valuable than that.
First, let us take a look the over all appearance of this unit:
FRONT:
You will find a bolt to let loose of the lid, a bolt to unfold the WWAN antenna and a POWER switch.
BACK:
You will find the LAN jack, VGA port.
RIGHT:
You will find the keys to start up QuickWeb and Outlook, headphone port, SmartCard slot, and 2 usable USB ports.
LEFT:
You will find a pen slot, Exp-Card/34 slot, WLAN switch, F-wire port, and 1 more USB port.
Here are the two ways you can possibly enjoy your EliteBook 2740p:
1. As a laptop
The keyboard is very easy to type on.
- It has a LED backlit screen with a native resolution of 1280×800.
- The keyboards are spill resistant, full-sized but sadly, are not backlit. It has also a neat touch pad and a pointing stick.
2. As a tablet
The EliteBook 2740p changes to a tablet by means of a wind and collapse of the screen.
- The Wacom digitizer application is an excellent feature. It is very precise and backs up finger gestures.
- The speakers are good for online video or small group presentation.
A stylus pen lets you write on screen.
It handles onscreen key in by means of a stylus pen. Once the pen tip shuts off, a cursor is displayed on the screen for precise routing. A finger-sensitive feature is turned off and presents a keyboard on the screen and hand-writing input panel.
For using on the go, it has an active 250GB HD protection. The unit is operated on by Intel’s 2.53GHz Core i5 with a 4GB DDR3 RAM and an outstanding Intel GMA 4500 incorporated graphics chipset. The 6-cell battery is quite a disadvantage since it can last only for an estimated time of 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Another feature is the HP Business Card Reader which uses the 2 mp Webcam to capture information from business cards. It also includes a 90-day trial with HP SkyRoom for videoconferencing and group presentations. For a more comprehensive use of this unit, EliteBook 2740p is also packaged with a 64-bit Windows 7 Professional operating system, Microsoft OneNote 2007, HP Protect Tools, HP SpareKey, and HP Disk Sanitizer.
With this unit more affordable than Apple, a more versatile PC would be more useful for businessmen, students and for anybody who just wants a touch of class, considering its two ways of enjoying the unit.
