Is it any surprise that after the release of the Nintendo 3DS, that phone companies would begin creating 3D phones. This phone, which should be released mid-July, has caught the attention of many technology gurus’. The HTC EVO 3D finds its main source of competition in the LG Optimus 3D, as there are few 3D phones, let alone 3D smart phones.
The EVO 3D is a slick black phone with red detailing around the camera in the back. The detailing around the camera actually makes the phone look like a tape recorder from the back giving it more of a vintage, but chic look. The device is 5 inches tall, 3 inches wide, 0.47 inches thick and weighs approximately 170g. Because of its thinness, the EVO has a rubber back making the phone easier to handle.
The display screen is a 3D LCD capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. The screen is approximately 4.3 inches and is created from Gorilla glass. Gorilla Glass is known for its durability and for being scratch resistant. The touchscreen has a multi-touch ability, which just means that you can effectively press more than one button at once. The purpose of “multi-touch” is to make typing on the touchscreen easier for someone who types quickly. This means that they will skip letters less often because the device will register multiple taps.
Even though the HTC EVO is a 3 dimensional device, there is no need for 3D glasses to see the effects. However, the 3D effects are not similar to those in the movies where images appear to pop out of the screen. Rather, the display appears as though you can look in to the device. The only issue arising from 3D devices is that they have to maintain a certain angle or the image becomes blurry. HTC was aware of the frustration this may cause so they decided to make it so the phone owner can actually turn off the 3D effects. The switch to toggle between 3D and 2D is actually on the outside of the device for the user’s convenience.
The device is run with a 1.2 GHz Dual-Core QualComm Snapdragon processor. They used a highly advanced CPU to support the 3D technology. The EVO is also equipped with the leading high-end Android OS V.2.3.
The EVO 3D has a great 5MPcamera, that includes things such as auto-focus and dual-LED flash, things that most top smart phones are built with. However, this device has an added bonus to its camera that most smart phones do not have. The EVO has the ability to record high quality videos in 3D. Furthermore, it can take 3D images as well.
The HTC EVO 3D has a powerful 1730mAH Lithium Ion battery. HTC created the EVO with a stronger battery because of its 3D capabilities which was a smart move on their part. This device can last up to 9 hours and 20 minutes in terms of talk time, which is high for a phone with such abilities as this.
