Microsoft Plan to Bring to an End Win-XP Support in Two Years
Countdown to Win XP SP3
The time has come to lay to rest Microsoft Windows XP Operating System. In less than two years, you will not be getting support for Windows XP. Therefore, if you have not yet upgraded to Microsoft Windows 7, you need to do so as quickly as possible. The same will apply to the popular Microsoft Office 2003 that millions of people worldwide have become accustomed to.
Microsoft recently announced that it will finally bring to an end the support it has always provided to its loyal users of Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) by Aril 8th, 2014. However, the million dollar question is “What does this denote?” What this means is that the official online support, timely security updates as well as patches will no longer be provided.
What happens after April 8th, 2014?
After April 8th, 2014 all desktop and laptop PCs loaded with Windows XP Operating System will be susceptible to online threats such as spyware and viruses. In addition, hardware manufacturer will no longer be compelled to develop drivers to make certain that their products are compatible with Windows XP Operating System. As such, after April 8th, 2014 if you are still using Windows XP as your primary operating system, your PC will not be compatible with virtually all of the latest hardware in the market. You will no longer be able to connect digital camera to your PC with an aim of sharing your favorite pictures on social networks.
Whereas this announcement might come as a surprise to a number of people, Microsoft has for some time been trying to phase out the popular Windows XP Operating System. Windows Vista Operating System was the OS that was supposed to replace Windows XP. However, the kind of backlash that the company received from its loyal users because of the various flaws that Win-Vista had, they had no choice but to continue providing support or Windows XP SP3.
But all this changed when Microsoft Windows 7 was introduced into the market. Win-7 has been in the market for more than 2 years now and so far has proved to be efficient. There are ongoing works to try and complete Windows 8. In comparison to Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows 7 OS has been very stable and has been welcomed by majorities of Microsoft product users. What’s more is that, the developer has integrated within Windows 7 OS Win XP virtual mode. This is an application that enables users to use old applications that cannot run in Win 7 environment. Then again, practically all programs that used to run in Win XP SP3 run smoothly when installed in Windows 7 environment. Moreover, the support provided for Windows 7 Operating System is extremely marvelous.
Is the market ready for the phasing out of Win XP SP3?
However, it still remains to be seen if this announcement will come to pass. After Microsoft made the announcement, a study was carried out to determine the number of Windows XP users versus Windows 7 users. From the study, it was found that 46% of computer users globally still use Windows XP, whereas only 37% used Windows 7 OS.
