After Google offering Maps service since a long time, Yahoo has also decided to roll into this field as well. There is no doubt that Yahoo is always considered amongst the top 3 search engines all over the world and that is why they will never want to stay behind from Google that is the leading search engine in world wide web. Yahoo has gone one step ahead from its services, matching the stuff offered by Google and this time they have introduced their Maps service that is powered by Nokia. There is no doubt that making a coalition with Nokia for launching Maps services is one of the best things to do and Yahoo has done the same thing. Customers always want to see big brand names so that they can rely on them and that is why keeps critics like me satisfied before personally checking out the services offered.
Availability of Yahoo Maps
One thing to be mentioned here is that these Yahoo Maps are available in USA and Canada only but definitely, they will launch this service all over the world very soon. Although, people in Europe will also be able to use these Yahoo Maps but the data for these localities is not much authentic at the moment. So, people living in European countries will have to stick to Google Maps for the moment. Yahoo Maps has been there since last couple of years but this time they have decided to introduce live maps in collaboration with Nokia. This service is also termed as NokiHoo and the news for this coalition was first sighted on internet and television media in last May. However, this is for the first time that you can visit Yahoo Maps powered by Nokia on the internet. The main reason that I can understand for Yahoo to make a coalition with Nokia is that, Nokia is spread all over the world. If we talk about the handsets that are the main product of Nokia then almost every 3rd mobile user has used Nokia made cellphones and that is the main reason for which Yahoo has shown its interest to get associated with this globally present company. There is still an aerial view available in Canada and USA but they have planned to introduce street view feature as well. So, we can expect to see some major changes in Yahoo Maps in coming future.
Several Features
It would have been great if Yahoo had re launched its maps with Street view features available but they haven’t done anything like this that is quite disappointing at least for me. I had expected a lot from Yahoo but they don’t seem to pay much attention towards this program at the moment. Yahoo maps are using IP targets to locate a place or a business that is not much effective because IP addresses can be altered very easily. You may not be able to rely on all the information provided by Yahoo Maps as you do rely on Google Maps but still this is a good beginning in the highly manipulated market.
