While there are innumerable benefits and pleasures associated with using a Windows 7 PC, one thing we all dread and do all to avoid is restarting the PC.It’s a tedious exercise to reboot any Windows enabled PC, especially if you’ve got a truckload of software installed on your PC.The trouble gets amplified if you are using a PC with low specs.
So here are some tips, simple implementable actions which can produce a stunning increase in your PC’s performance.
1.Disable Unnecessary Startup Programs
When your computer boot’s up Windows 7,it’s slowed down by the need to load all these programs you have installed when Windows is restarting. This issue becomes irksome especially when your computer is installed with copious amounts of handy software. To counter this:
a.)Click the start menu.Look for ‘run’.Enter the command ‘msconfig’ and press enter.
b.)Switch to the Startup tab. Scroll through the list and unselect those unnecessary programs which eat into your processor power during boot up.Be careful not to tamper with those essential for your Windows seamless functioning.
2.Delay Windows Services
While removing the unnecessary services from msconfig certainly helps, delaying Windows services produces instant and appreciable results. Not all the services your computer boots up our necessary at the same very instant. To get around this, one can manipulate the computer to introduce a lag in the implementation of certain options.Be careful though, as to what services you choose to delay.A simple search should guide you sufficiently.
3.Disable Unused Hardware
The computer activates loads of drivers when it first starts up, many of which you might not even remotely come to using. Access the Device Manager from the control panel and blunt any driver you might not find use for—Bluetooth adapter,PCMCIA card controllers, modems, and virtual Wi-Fi controllerare the biggest and most ubiquitous hindrances. Right-click on the entry you wish to cripple and select “Disable”. Resorting to driver update manager software, preferably ‘Device Doctor’ is highly advisable.
Be careful not to mess with any drivers located under Computer, Disk drives, Display adapters, IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, or System devices.
4.Eliminate Unused Fonts
Windows XP and Windows 7 load more than 200 fonts during initial boot up. And a greater number if you’ve Office installed. More likely than not, you hardly utilize more that 2 or 3 of them. So to speed up your computer you can hide them to optimize your startup.
a.)Open the fonts folder from the Start Menu search box and unselect all perfunctory fonts.
b.)Click Hide.
You can always revisit these fonts if you find use for them. All this does is stops Windows from loading them at startup.
5. Software Options
There are several software options available which help in cleansing your computer. I’ve tabulated the best 3 available over the internet-
a.)Autoruns for Windows by Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell: It’s an efficient app which shows every program that starts at system boot.
Then it’s all about picking the required ones, while dumping the rest.
b.)CCleaner :It’s a fantastic registry cleaner resource.
c.)PC DeCrapifier: The added benefits to itsself-explanatory name? Itslight does not install and locates all third party software hiding in the dark alleys of your PC.
