The Samsung NF310 A01comes at the price range of $379.99 and has a beautiful, fancy design that boasts of a spacious keyboard, a glossy HD screen and efficient Bluetooth capabilities. Though it’s all good in design and features, it falls back in performance because of the dual core Atom and no availability of the HDMI port. However, for basic users this would prove to be a minor flaw and of a lesser concern.
Review
Samsung has been a consumer’s favorite when it comes to TVs, monitors, LCD screens, smartphones or cellphones, however, in the laptop industry, Samsung still has a long way to go before it can compete with other company giants. The Samsung NF310 is a good laptop, but it really doesn’t have anything that could make it stand out amongst the crowd, considering that it has emerged from Samsung.
It’s probably because Samsung used the Atom processor that has caused its performance to fall back on what was expected. The two factors that differ the Samsung NF310 from other notebooks is its HD 10-inch display and its spacious keyboard. But this too comes at a steep price of $399, while other laptops of the same like can be found at just the price of $299.
Samsung apparently paid too much attention to the body of the laptop rather to its functionality. It has a glossy body, but it’s also bulky. The gloss would just be a magnetic field for finger prints. If you could just put in $50, you could have a much more powerful laptop in the shape of the Toshiba Satellite T215D.
Design
The laptop is 10.8 x 7.4 inches and is weighed to be around 3.5 pounds. The audio system coming with the netbook is also too loud for its size and this causes a loud but not necessarily a sound hearing experience. The sound definition would be good for loud end games. On the other hand, the webcam is pretty good at a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels and it is integrated with the CyberLink YouCam software.
There is a data SD card reader and 3 USB 2.0 ports. There is no expansion, whereas you would find Ethernet, 802.11/b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth working efficiently. Sadly, there is no optical drive and you would have to do without DVDs. There is also no HDMI output and there is just 1GB RAM which is deemed to be a little low considering the price of the netbook.
Performance
Being a netbook, the battery life of the NF310 is 4 hours and 11 minutes, but there are other netbooks that have a longer battery life, the ASUS Eee PC being one of them. The NF310 uses Windows 7 starter as its main OS, has 1024MB DDR2 SDRAM and a 250GB hard drive.
In conclusion, you could buy many other powerful netbooks at a price lower than this. Devices with a higher price tag than the Samsung NF310 also come with loads of other functionalities that the Samsung NF310 seems to be missing out. It is therefore advisable to search the market carefully before you attempt to buy this.
