BBC.com has come out with information regarding an ‘on-demand service’ using subscription model of its iPlayer to be available on iPad. The Mac compatible iPlayer will have its global launch based on pure subscription model to be followed by partnerships with advertisers.
The service is expected to be available only from mid of next year and that too only in certain intented markets. The service will carry both free sections with ad -support as well as paid content. However, no information is yet available on the pricing. Managing Director of BBC.com Luke Bradley-Jones has mentioned the States in the first few markets for the subscription service. It is expected that the service covers more content and not just BBC America after its launch in US.
The iPlayer has been incredibly popular in U.K with millions of downloads per month. It lets users to stream BBC programs for a limited duration after they have been in air. It is expected to get a warm greeting in the future markets as well.
