The Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router WNDR 3400 is one of the greatest dual band routers used at many homes. They come with economical prices and have a scarcity of Gigabit Ethernet.
System and Design
When you look at the N600 Wireless Dual Band Router WNDR 3400, it gives much of a look of the RangeMax group of Netgear’s routers and admission points. A big round blue button is placed on the top right middle of the shiny black surface which has eight little LED lights decorated on it to show the direction of the antenna. Routers and access points by Netgear mostly have an internal antenna design and so does the WNDR 3400, which makes it solid and neater than devices with external antennas. The blue button is Wi-Fi Protected Setup named and initiates a 2 minute time in window on pressing which allows other WPS enabled devices to enter.
Four LAN ports and one WAN port are located on the back of the router with a regular 10/100 Mbps Ethernet. The Wi-Fi on and off switches and a USB 2.0 port are also situated around the port to swarm an external hard drive to enable the router’s network storage space facet. The front side of the router has a range of LED lights that depict the status of the network ports, the USB port and the Internet connection. The Netgear Genie is a setup application that comes with this router along with guiding instructions. The instructions are easy to follow and are systematic to make anyone able to run and start the router.
Features
The WNDR 3400 from Netgear is capable of disseminating Wireless N signals on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies concurrently. The 2.4 GHz is popular for being shared with home device such as Bluetooth headsets and freestyle phones whereas the 5 GHz is more elite and better performer. Thus, the WNDR 3400 being a dual band router supports practically all obtainable network clients.
There are two wireless networks and guest networks of the WNDR 3400 that can be turned on and off depending on the different Web interface of routers. There is also an NAS function supported by an external USB hard drive of formats NTFS and FAT32 file systems. It restricts access to its storage through a password and the NAS feature of the router can handle operations such as HTTP and FTP.
The Traffic Meter is one very appealing feature of the WNDR 3400 router as it enables one to control the router’s bandwidth, making one able to control his limited quota of downloading etc. Another feature of the WNDR 3400 is its Live Parental Control feature which requires an active DNS account along with Open DNS. By installing it from the CD through a short installation process, you can observe and control the Web filtering function from anywhere you want. The Web interface of the WNDR 3400 router is pretty instinctive and reactive and the router includes other features such as Content Filtering, Universal Plug and play, port forwarding and Quality of Service.
Performance
The performance given by the Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router WNDR 3400 is very good while its network storage speed requires improvement!
