The Toshiba Satellite A665-S6058 is a laptop with upgraded graphics, 16 inch screen and best known for its highlighting graphics from the Nvidia Optimus graphics and amazing audio.

Review

The Toshiba Satellite A665 laptop is no dissimilar from the earlier satellite laptops except that it has Intel Core i5 processor, Harman Kardon stereo speakers and Nvidia Optimus graphics. The disappointing factor of the laptop is its poor battery life.

Design

The framework of the A665 laptop is charcoal gray in color while the cover and wrist rest of the laptop are surfaced pattern with an attractive look and the ability to prevent fingerprints. The display is framed by a fine and shiny black colored bezel. The keyboard is carefully spaced with shiny black keys and a numeric keypad on the side. The two pivots for the display are thin and rigid as they hold the lid of the laptop in a firm position.

Underneath the keyboard is a matte finished touchpad which is capable of supporting multitouch gestures. The LED light can be lit to light the Satellite logo on the lower left corner and one can also enable Toshiba’s Eco Mode to spread the battery life. The touchpad also has two mouse buttons beneath it that are light and fragile.

The display of the screen is 16 inches with a resolution of 1,366×768 pixels which is said to be less for a 16 inch screen. The Webcam is situated above the display and is 0.3 mega pixels. However, images and videos give an enhanced effect because of the screen’s lustrous finish. There are two Harman Kardon speakers in grilles above the keyboard that produce outstanding sound.

Features

The Toshiba Satellites A665 has a number of software utilities including ReelTime. There are four USB 2.0 ports, HDMI and VGA ports, a media card reader and Express Card / 34 slots. One of the USB ports has an eSATA port which allows you to charge cell phones, MP3 players and other USB tools. The laptop does not offer a Blu-ray player but a DVD burner that is low quality in such a price. This laptop also doesn’t have the Intel Wireless Display Technology with the help of which you can stream videos and audios wirelessly.

Performance

The Satellite A665 laptop has the dual core Intel Core i5 450 M processor along with a 4 GB of DDR3 memory to improve basic performance. The Core i5 450 M outstood in the multitaskting laboratory test, the Photoshop CS3 test and on the iTunes test. Windows 7 showed to be very responsive and sooth with applications and video loading in a test. The A665 also produces 3D frame rates.

The battery life was a disappointment in terms of switchable graphics. When tested on the video playback battery drain test, the A665’s six cell battery performed only for 1 hour and 49 minutes. Although, the Toshiba Satellite A665 – S6058 laptop is one with outstanding graphics, it fails to accomplish the requirements of a modern laptop.
